16 REASONS WHY 20-SOMETHINGS SHOULD GO ON A CRUISE

Whoever thinks cruise holidays are only for over-60s, should read this to realise that even young adults are bound to be enthused by cruises. Here are 16 reasons as to why 20-somethings should go on a cruise, without waiting until they’re older:

1. Less Time, More cities
For youths with restricted time and budget to spare, this has to be the biggest perk of a cruise holiday. You get to see multiple cities (or even countries) with cruise itineraries even as short as 3 or 4 days.

2. Food Food Food
Perpetually hungry 20-somethings always welcome buffet meals. Almost all cruises have buffets at their main restaurants where the youth can definitely gorge their hearts out with international cuisines, local favourites and fast foods too.

3. No need to pack-unpack multiple times
Packing that travel bag, then unpacking it at the hotel room, packing it again while checking out of a hotel to another – well, you can forget all that packing and unpacking when you’re aboard a cruise. You’ll just need to do it once while checking in, and then before you leave the ship at the end.

4. Day-time Activities on-board the ship
There are many cruises that have exciting activities that will interest 20-somethings. Apart from swimming pools, Jacuzzis and fitness centres, many newer ships even have rock climbing, zip lines and even scuba diving!

5. Night-time action on the ship
If you thought only the days could be exciting, you should see the night time activity on cruises. Dance clubs, parties, live entertainment shows, Broadway shows, casinos and stand-up comedy are what’s in store. While you’re at it, don’t miss out on bar-hopping!

6. Social and Business networking
With such a buzzing night-life and great lounges, many cruise ships become excellent platforms to meet people from different walks of lives, paving the way for enhancing your social as well as business network – crucial for 20-somethings setting out to build their careers and lives.

7. Group discounts!
Two is the company, four is an extra discount! Choose to cruise with friends and opt for quad-sharing rooms to get great discounts. But book early, since quad rooms sell out quickly.

8. Port calls
Opt for itineraries with port calls at buzzing cities to make the best of your cruise holiday.

9. Go on that Expedition!
Expedition cruises may be tough on the pocket of a 20-something, but if he/she is really into adventure, this is a great option since it often includes open-water snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking, mountain hikes and cycling hikes. It also tends to be a congregation of photographers, oceanographers and naturalists.

10. Stay connected
Millennials are practically glued to their screens – don’t fret, cruise ships have got that covered too. At fair package rates, you can choose your calling/data plans to use while on-board the ship.

11. Romantic Honeymoon
Being almost all-inclusive, a cruise holiday makes for a perfect honeymoon.
P.S. Pick a room with a private balcony overlooking the ocean and see her eyes sparkle every time the wind blows through her hair!

12. Birthday celebrations
There are great 1-night or 2-night cruises that you could choose from to celebrate a birthday without going too far from home. Most cruise-liners offer the best of entertainment for such itineraries.

13. Adult-only spaces
Avoid those bawling kids and have laid-back conversations at adult-only spaces, offered by many ships.

14. Solo-friendly cabins
Sometimes you just want some solitude, and many cruises get that. They offer solo-friendly cabins which means that you get your privacy, and don’t have to pay the high single supplement charge.

15. Easy access to your favourite tipple
Most 20-somethings like their regular dose of alcohol and often end up looking for places to obtain them, while on holiday. The cruise offers pre-set packages to choose and ensure easy availability of alcohol.

16. Value for Money
Considering all of the previous 15 reasons, surely, cruise ships will be a top choice for 20-somethings looking for value-for-money.

Common Misconceptions about cruising

Cruising is an expensive affair: The most common myth about cruising is that it can get expensive compared to other outings. In reality, there are tons of pocket-friendly options available and with no shortage of benefits. What gets expensive is the on board indulgences like gambling, spa treatments and alcohol which can be avoided if you are on budget travelling.

You'll get seasick: The cruises are really huge and equipped with stabilizers, which almost minimize the motion that makes us fall sick. Unless the sea is really rough, you won't realize you are sailing on water.  Having said that, if you fall sick easily then it is advisable to carry seasickness medicines.

All cruise cabins are very small and cramped: The fact is that the cruises have variety of accommodation options for every budget. The cruises from singapore ships are huge with spacious rooms and there is enough privacy on board.

You'll be confined to a particular place and feel claustrophobic: The cruise liners are usually HUGE. Once you get on board you will feel you have come to a different city altogether. If you have a fear of feeling claustrophobic, you can always choose an itinerary where you have an option of few of no sea days, which will bring you to a new place every morning you wake up.

Cruising is a risky affair:  Each cruise liner has its dedicated team of experts trained to deal with any type of emergency that may arise. Apart from that, every ship has team of doctors and nurses to take care of any medical emergencies arising on board.

It will be very crowded and you won't get any privacy: It's no hidden fact that cruises carry  3000-5000 passengers minimum. So it might get crowded at few places but there are always different options available onboard. There are special lounges, libraries and coffee shops where once can enjoy a quiet time. You can even choose a spa treatment for relaxation!

You will be forced to follow a tight schedule : The cruise follows a fixed itinerary, but to visit a particular spot or to give it a miss is your choice. You can opt to stay on board if you do not want to visit a particular port. Also, if you plan to leave the ship you are totally free to explore the destination on your own. You just need to make sure you get back at the assigned time.
